Is 21 mg of nicotine in a patch too much for me to start with?

Asked by EmilyBearclaw (50points) April 7th, 2009

I’m trying to quit smoking, my friend gave me 21 mg patches… I’m 5’6” and weigh about 150 lbs. I’ve been smoking maybe 2 years? I probably smoke a little less than a pack a day. Help, por favor.

The patch website should be able to help you. I’m not gonna research for you, but you should follow the guidelines and start with what the company suggests.

And congrats on quitting!!!

There is around 1 mg more or less of nicotine in a regular full flavor cig. Your patch is equal to about a cigarette packs worth of nicotine released over X amount of hours. You could cut it in half and start with that. If you get no relief step up to a whole patch.

Keep it up. Seriously, food is going to taste better. It sucks, but in two weeks you will be loving life.
