Tourist attractions in Toronto?

Asked by The_Inquisitor (3163points) April 7th, 2009

The planning of going to Toronto is coming to an end, and I’d like to see if there’s anything fun out there to do in Toronto? I most likely will already be going to see Niagra Falls, the CN tower, Shopping, and the Chinatowns. But does anyone else have any other recommendations of what else to do while vacationing in Toronto this summer?
Many thanks. :P

Kensington Market is awesome for some good vintage shopping and unique restaurants.
If you’re into a relaxing nature walk, find The Evergreen Brickworks (on the Bayview extension north of Rosedale Valley). It’s a great hidden gem here in Toronto, if you like a good nature walk.
Queen Street West is awesome for shopping as well.
Also, be sure to check out the comedy in Toronto, it’s amazing. Pick up a NOW magazine when you get here to find out about some great shows in the city.
Frank Gehry just redid the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario) and its STUNNING! You’ve got to check it out.
The Bata Shoe Museum is also really cool.

Hockey Hall Of Fame
Yonge Street—just shop
There’s part of Yonge Street in particular that has restaurants of many nationalities…my cousins live a block away from there.
Go see the small town near Toronto where Dumbo the elephant was killed. There’s a statue to commemerate his freak train accident.
DO NOT go to a leafs game. They suck so there’s no point (GO HABS GO!)

The BATA Shoe Museum – great fun… if you like shoes! Madonna, Elvis…lots of cool shoes and shoes of stars, etc.

The Fringe Festival – July 1–12.
This is a theatre festival that happens all across downtown Toronto (the hub being in an area called The Annex). Shows range from “fringe” theatre, conventional theatre, dance and improv. There’s a wide range of performances to see and shows cost only $10. The Tony award winning The Drowsy Chaperone and cult hit Evil Dead: The Musical both got their start at the Fringe Festival. http://fringetoronto.com/

The Second City – amazing improv and sketch comedy. Shows every night. Mike Meyers, Dan Aykroyd, John Candy… these guys started here. The talent coming out of this building is amazing. http://secondcity.com/?id=theatres/toronto

The Toronto Islands are fun and beautiful in the summertime. Good for families as well.

The Toronto Blue Jays are on a roll too! Jays games are fun.
