I work a 12 hour midnight shift from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and I drink about 4 cups of coffee during that time on each of my shifts throughout each work cycle. I’ve never had any problems because of it and I’ve never heard of any detrimental health issues that would or could occur from drinking a lot of coffee.

Hmm. You mean you don’t have to drink coffee to remain alive? Well that’s the principal I’d been operating on.

kayysamm's avatar

@naturalmineralwater hahah i feel the same way.

I hope not, cause I do too. Let me know.

Ha, I’ll let you know when I know.

They always say it stunts your growth, but I’m 5’9 and have been this tall since I was 16. I dont think I can grow anymore but I’m not shrinking.

Zen's avatar

@kayysamm Aha! Maybe you could’ve been 5’11”!?!

If you consider the amount you are drinking and the time period that goes by before you drink the 3 cups, it’s not a lot at all.

Most coffee drinkers have a cup (or 2) first thing in the morning, then another during coffee break and one in the evening.

But if you noticed yourself getting hyper, or not being able to sleep, or if you have gastrointestinal disturbances (like the housekeeper in “Two and a Half Men” who says coffee goes right through her), you could either cut down on the coffee, or be willing to suffer the consequences if you like coffee that much (as do some people).

Dave Foley of Kids In The Hall and NewsRadio: “Much of Foley’s character on the show was based on his own personality, including his coffee addiction (by his own admission, Foley drinks as many as 50 cups a day when working)...” (emphasis mine)

And when he did a talk at Upright Citizen’s Brigade in NYC a couple of summers ago, he had a Starbucks Venti-sized cup with him onstage and it was 9pm. So, yeah, 3 cups ain’t so bad.

nope, I drink like 5 and I’m 100% fine :P

I found this article on coffee and health yesterday while trying to convince my boyfriend our cheese was safe to eat. It should put your coffee fears aside. In short, it says coffee is safe, but like anything else—everything in moderation.

kayysamm's avatar

Ha, alright good. My coffee habits are good then :D

osullivanbr's avatar

You big pansy. I go through three coffee plantations a day.
Seriously, it doesn’t seem a lot at all. Although, it might be a problem if you’re Irishing up those coffees!!

kayysamm's avatar

LOL, no its just straight black coffee for me.

The only reason I asked was because my dad told me it was bad for my health and i was liek crap, is it really ?

Mr_M's avatar

HOWEVER, it WILL stain your teeth, especially black coffee.

osullivanbr's avatar

Never!!! You tell your Dad to give me a call, I can’t have someone out there bad-mouthing the juice of life.

kayysamm's avatar

Ha, I’ll have my dad call you right away.

& I whiten my teeth every six months because of smoking and coffee. (: so im pretty good with my teeth right now.

eponymoushipster's avatar

@kayysamm i think the smoking would be more damaging to your teeth than the coffee. maybe you should give that up…

EmpressPixie's avatar

I think the whitening your teeth would be more damaging to your teeth than the coffee. It’s purely cosmetic and could be harmful. Of course, the smoking damages everything…

Yeah, out of coffee, whitening, and smoking, coffee is so not the thing I’d be giving up.

Mr_M's avatar

All I know is, when I smoked and drank coffee, my visits to the dentist for cleanings were hell.

kayysamm's avatar

Damn, maybe I should stop smoking and stop whitening my teeth. ermmmm tough choice.

eponymoushipster's avatar

@EmpressPixie yeah, i had whitening done once, and for 3 days I had sharp, random, shooting pains. It opens the pores of your teeth up. i was in my own private hell.

but, aside from that, smoking is bad. mmmkay?

tiffyandthewall's avatar

i sure hope not

casheroo's avatar

I just got a job that I have to be in at 530 in the morning. I don’t care if coffee is safe or not, I need it lol

loser's avatar

I do that all the time. Three pots of coffee, maybe start worry then.

3or4monsters's avatar

Unless you have pre-existing heart issues or adrenal issues, I don’t see why 3 cups a day is a problem.

Dr_C's avatar

I can’t survive without AT LEAST 3 cups of coffee in my line of work… i know the negative impacts on my nervous system and metabolism… i know the effect on the endocrine system… i just don’t give a rat’s ass.

Enjoy your coffee sister…. pour it on.

If you are in perfect health and it’s not extremely strong, my answer would be: No.

RedPowerLady's avatar

It depends actually. Coffee beans themselves have many health benefits. It is the caffeine that can be quite harmful over long term use. It can create many health problems that you might not even be aware of. Also if you add sugar to your coffee then that is quite unhealthy as well. Hubby just switched to adding Agave to his coffee (a natural sweetner).

It really depends on the type of coffee you are consuming as too much of coffee causes dehydration. Also if you put sugar in your coffee then you tend to consume more sugar too but coffee beans also have some health benefits.
