Has anyone had (lasting) success taking Alli?

Asked by creativejuices (490points) April 10th, 2009

My sister is about to start taking this and I wondered if any Fluther members have had success using the pill. I did search for questions regarding Alli at Fluther and I only saw 2 actual answers to this question. I do know that it makes poo grease if you eat crappy while taking the pill & that one could loose weight if you just eat well…. etc.. I understand that. I just want actual “been there, done that” answers. Thanks!

A friend of mine lost ten pounds, before “crapping orange oven grease” became too much and she quit. She had a lot of the…leakage issues that get mentioned everywhere.

Her words not mine. She sent me a photo of it on my phone, which was a nasty surprise. I wouldn’t want to be passing that either.

@asmonet I’ve heard the leakage to be a huge issue. Not sure I would want to lose weight that way. @asmonet nice avatar, anyone we should know about? :)

wow, close friend to send that type of pic… sounds like something me and my best would do tho!!

@chyna: Haha, that’s from one of my favorite strips from one of my favorite webcomics, though I do have someone specialish, and they made an account…it freaks me out :P. And another someone special who prompted the avatar.

@chyna: Yeah, she couldn’t wear white…at all, and sometimes she couldn’t wear jeans. Because it would show through.

Gross.

@creativejuices: Haha, yeah, she just wanted to horrify me.

Wow, that’s really disturbing. My actual name is Alli, and I can’t believe there’s a diet pill of the same name that causes…leakage. I can’t wait to tell my husband, he’ll laugh his butt off.

For a minute I thought you were asking if anyone had success with “taking” Allie. I thought I’d better not make a smartass answer to that since Allie lives less than a half hour away, and she might kick my ass.

Dude, I totes thought that too.
But I’m safe in VA. :)

@asmonet What?? you are in VA? I’m in WV. Where in VA?

@AstroChuck: wish you had… the fall out would have been amusing to read. A fellow smartass. Love it.

@asmonet: where did you find asw? I love them.

I found them years ago, very soon after they started I think. I was sold immediately. :)

@chyna: Northern, I’m like 20mins from DC. Where are you in WV?

All I know is I got a call from my best friend, asking me to go to her house and get her new pants and underwear. I went to her work and she changed. She also left for the day, humiliated. She had a marginally “fat” meal, but had been taking the pill for a few weeks. It seemed to get worse – lower tolerance, I guess. I was sitting in her living room when the bottle when flying past my head. She never took it after that, she is still struggling with some of the weight (she looks great, but don’t tell her that!) but will not use any other pill, again.

how much did she lose? before it got to be too much for her.

@creativejuices – 15lbs or so – but it was really not very pleasant, the side effects were not worth it, according to her. I don’t know what her diet was, along with the pills. It was more likely 3wks or so. She’s fought with 20–30lbs for some time, now.

My cousin, John, took it to win a bet between some buddies to see who could lose the largest percentage of their body weight in 2 months. Everyone pitched in $100, so the stakes were pretty high ;) He had some… leakage issues… at work sitting in his office he says he thought he was just passing gas and had a presentation due that day. Yeah. His assistant got him a change of clothes, but still. He ended up winning the bet, so was it worth it? A normal human being would say no. My cousin would say hell yes!

@asmonet—I’m at the bottom part of the state, near Ky.

My daughter lost a lot of weight and had the “leakage” problem ONCE. It was behavior modification. Sort of like Antabuse for alcohol. She knew that if she ate high fat food she would leak so she didn’t eat high fat food. (you would be surprised at how much fat is in a Costco Muffin!)

My ex boyfriends mom lost twenty pounds or so with Alli. She never brought up leaking, but now that I know it happens, I feel semi disgusted that I used the toilet right after her before. Good lord.
