Do you have to have your original naturalization form when i was sworn in or can I use a copy of that certification?

Asked by blaksquid (71points) April 16th, 2009

Originally from Australia, was naturalized maybe 10 years ago. Going on a cruise in late summer. Need to get an American passport. Do I have to have my original naturalization paper or can I use a copy?

Never copy your certificate! it got me in a lot of hot water when I tried to get my passport. whew
It was really strange to have my naturalization paper not in my possession, but I think they needed the original in order to process my request and mailed it back to me along with my new passport.
