What sort of things have you put in a microwave that really shouldn't be in there?

Asked by fundevogel (15506points) April 18th, 2009

Actually I’m interested any sort of thing that shouldn’t have been in a microwave, oven, microwave oven or on a stove. Intentionally or unintentionally.

I put a frozen Hershey’s bar, metallic wrapper and all, in the microwave as a child.

Poor choice.

Fruit wrapped in foil. It kind of started a fire…

a can of lager once when I was 13… my mum and dad had gone away for the day and I had a party at my house…my friend was drinking too much and wanted the last can of lager so I put it in the microwave to hide it from her… I forgot about it and my dad found it in the microwave the day after… I was dumbfounded when he asked me “lynne? why is there a can of lager in the microwave???”

My little brother put his 2 toy buses in the microwave once. The only reason he didn’t blow the house up was he was smart enough to put the splatter cover over the top of them!!!
Needless to say we needed a new microwave, mum and dad were not very pleased!!

a canalope… no idea why I did it, figured it would explode… I was right… I’d have an extra 150 bucks today if I didn’t think exploding canalopes would be cool.

I put a metal pot in the microwave when I was a kid, purely accident, and nothing happened…it was in there for a good few minutes.

My hubby put a metal can of cheese in there for 10 seconds, again purely accident, and it totally fried our microwave.

I like what happens to Peeps when you put them in the microwave, they puff up real nice. Same as marshmallows.

@miasmom – I wonder if the type of metal it was makes a difference.

@phoenyx—Yup. CD’s. When my kids were teenagers they’d show up with these NASTY CD’s—Korn and all of that S—T. Well, they’d leave them laying all over their room…so when they weren’t looking I’d pop them in the microwave for a second (nice fireworks!) which would render them useless. They’d have very fine cracks in them, and the kids would complain. I’d say, “Well! Stop leaving them on the floor for people to step on!” :)

@ABoyNamedBoobs03 LOL!!!! Exactly how many pieces did it explode in to?? :)

@Likeradar – what happened to the hershey bar?

Likeradar's avatar

@fundevogel I don’t remember exactly, but there were sparks and flames involved in it’s downfall. :(

@miasmom Oh my! At first I thought you were talking about “PEOPLE”—peeps! And I thought you were making a baaad joke! Then I read the part about the marshmallows…whew!

well, i dont necessarily eat these things, but here are some items that turn everybody away from the lunch room:

1. chitlins from leftover thanksgiving dinner.
2. fish or salmon
3. garlicky lean cuisine meals with pasta
4. old popcorn
5. food with white sauce and cheeses
6. anything processed like stuff in cartons
7. something you just tried and experimented with that you want everybody else at work to try
8. clams and mussels
9. something from applebees on the next day
10. boiled eggs

@fundevogel I have wondered about that too, the pot I put in was a heavy metal pot for cooking in, I’m not sure what it was made of, I’ll have to check. The can my hubby put in was thin and tinny.

@Dutchess12 Definitely no people, just marshmallow peeps. :)

fundevogel's avatar

@miasmom – If it was a thick pot it might have been iron, I think the better cookware is often iron. Or at least it used to, I don’t know what the latest technological cooking advances are.

miasmom's avatar

@fundevogel I think it was iron, possibly, the other thing about the pot was that it had a rubber coated handle, so I’m not sure if that made any difference. When I took it out of the microwave it smelt like burnt rubber.

Fish…...........never, never, never place fish inside a microwave oven to heat it or cook it. the smell of fish will never come out of the oven.
