Chocolate without soy?

Asked by findinganswers (22points) April 20th, 2009

I seem to have a food allergy to soy…it makes me very sick and unable to sleep whatsoever. However, I LOVE chocolate and gum. All of the chocolate AND gum I’ve found has soy lecithin in it (with the exception of bakers chocolate) and I was wondering if anyone knew of a brand of soy free chocolate or gum?

the one recommended by @crisw is great. I hate a gluten intolerance and I LOVE them. :)

One of my favorite chocolates in the world also happens to be soy free. The French chocolatier Michel Cluizel makes dark chocolates that are, in my opinion, on the same level as the more famous Valrhona. They’re still hard to find in the States, but here in Chicago I can get them at Cost Plus World Market, so they’d probably carry them down your way too. Here’s a good write-up Cluizel’s products.

Cocoa Camino is a great chocolate company. On their allergy lists they mention Soy but that’s because it was produced in the same factory as other products, it’s not actually an ingredient.
