Do you like any hip-hop or rap (which artists/songs are your favorites)?

Asked by Dansedescygnes (2881points) April 22nd, 2009

I know a lot of people hate on rap and hip-hop and I’m no huge fan (of rap at least, I mean it is essentially talking over a small 3-note or so tune repeated ad nauseum), but I do like a few things.

For one, I like a lot of R&B and pop-rap like T-Pain, Alicia Keys, Rihanna, Flo Rida, etc.

As for actual rap, I only like a few songs like “Universal Mind Control” by Common, a few songs by Andre Nickatina, “Go Girl” by Pitbull, etc.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zo7FpI8MmmE “Universal Mind Control” by Common. This song was danced to by the dance team at my school and I got to dance to it as well. It’s just fun in my opinion. Same with “Go Girl”. Both of those also played at a couple parties I went to.

Usually not, although I have a weird little inexplicable weakness for Jay-z.

And Rhymenocerous v Hiphopatamus is possibly the most genius song ever written.

I am more into underground than mainstream. I could start with Immortal Technique, Jedi Mind Tricks, Mos Def, Common, Akir, Brother Ali, RA The Rugged Man, Jurassic 5, A Tribe Called Quest, Gang Starr, KRS-One, Nas…etc

I’ve been listening to a lot of underground (= good lyrics). Some of the more popular ones I like are Common (older stuff), Del the Funky Homosapien (Both Sides…) or Kool Keith (Dr. Octagon!!).

Less well-known are Atmosphere, Aesop Rock, Brother Ali, Cage. The Def Jux label is pretty reliable…

I can dig on some underground stuff. But I like more of the 90’s gangsta rap. It’s musically good and hilarious.
