The Japanese, without a formal declaration of war, in a surprise air raid, bombed the tar out of the American Navy fleet stationed in PH, Hawaii. This act forced FDR to bring the US into WWII officially, to the great relief of the Brits and the other countries who were fighting the Germans. (1941),
