Is there a configuration of a Rubik's Cube that would be "farthest" from solved? How many moves would it take to solve?

That is, assuming an optimal solving technique, what configuration of a Rubik’s Cube would take the most moves to solve?

That reporter misspelled “discrete.” How contextually inadequate.
