Who's that peer that keeps resetting your connection?

Seriously, what does it mean when it says “Connection reset by peer”? I’ve always wondered that.

But you are the bob_ , you have no equals. :) How can you get that message?

@lillycoyote I saw it often back in the day when I used mIRC (long, long time ago), but I’ve seen it every now and then more recently, when trying to connect to a website.

@bob_ You must seek out this peer then, it might be the beginning of a beautiful friendship. :)

@lillycoyote Hence the question :P

@bob_ This will only add to the mystery link The peer is very secretive.

This basically means the network connection was dropped for some reason. This reset could be generated locally by the network system when it sees a connection failure, or it might be received from the remote host (the computer or server you’re connecting to).

If your browser is producing a lot of these, it might be worth speaking to your ISP and telling them that you’re having connection issues. If you’re seeing them from different websites, and enough to annoy you, it’s probably a networking problem closer to home.

@richardhenry So what’s with the “peer”? Why not simply “Connection reset”?

“The Peer” is a ninja that runs across the treetops and the roofs of your home reseting connections with his mind he is very elusive and if caught will defend himself with throwing stars. It is best to wait it out until he moves on to his next victims and stay in your home.

Also. Rumor has it that if you leave beef jerky on your roof he will skip your house because all ninjas love beef jerky.

@bob_ A “peer” is any device along the route to where your request was headed, including your computer or the destination server.

@richardhenry A-ha. That explains it. Thanks!
