Drum solos are usually reserved for live shows where they can really shine, but the classic one is in Iron Butterfly’s “innagoddadavita” wtf

@Tink1113….Here’s a couple of youtube links for “innagoddadavida” (abbreviated to 10 minute limit…the song was over 20 if I recall): first is Iron Butterfly live over 30 years after the song was released (yes, a bunch of old men) and the second is some drummer playing along to the song…check out this drum set!
See ya kid…wtf

All I can say is Travis is amazing.

To most it’s probably Shit but I absolutely love the small solo in twisting by the pool, dire straits. Makes me all happy inside!

Anything by The Who. Keith Moon’s style of drumming is/was unique in that he uses drums as an independent instrument, rather than just for keeping time.

As for The Who, “Won’t Get Fooled Again” has a good one. But probably my favorite of all time is Ringo Starr’s short but sweet solo on “The End”. It’s not only one of the best, and simplest ever, but it’s also his only album solo.

That, and check out some jazz drum solos. Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich, those guys could fill rooms with people just there for their drum solos.

@dverhey – I looked for the Ringo Starr song and I can’t find it
And I loved The Who’s, Wont get fooled again!!!!

It’s by The Beatles. There will be some tributes on youtube for it.

Well no wonder! ;)

Listen to some of Dream Theater’s live performances. Some regard Mike Portnoy as one of the greatest drummers of his time.

Tink's avatar

Ok I’ll look for them

And some Rush. Neal Peart is also an excellent drummer.

Ok I’m listening to Senses Fail , Four Years and I like the drum beat but there’s no solo there
