Why are TV shock shows allowed to show people eating live animals?

I’m talking about reality show challenges where people are given live bugs and things to eat, not documentaries showing people who would eat these critters as part of their normal diet or survival type shows. Why does a poor stickbug or beetle have to be crunched on while alive? I’m sure there would be an uproar if they offered out a colorful butterfly instead.
