What do you know about dry shampoo?

Asked by kevbo (25672points) June 10th, 2009

My gf asked me to track down Samy Dry Shampoo and Big Sexy Hair Dry Shampoo. Both seem to get middling to low reviews. Have you tried either of these or dry shampoo in general, and what do you think? I’m not sure why she wants it exactly, but her primary complaint is the thinness of her hair and everything she has to do to give it volume. Also, where’s a good place to buy it? Thanks.

Try salon quality products. It’ll cost a few bucks but the brands sold in grocery stores are not very good. Volumizers sounds like the way go to here.

They don’t work.
Dry shampoos are often used in hospitalized patients who are non-ambulatory. The idea is that the dry matter will bind with the oils in the hair and on the scalp, which can then be brushed out. I have found that it just winds up being a powdery oily mess.

I’ve seen it for pets, tried it on a cat, and it doesn’t work very well at all. Your results may vary.

I have used it only in dire straits; in hospital and at home with a broken wrist; the powder does remove some of the oil.It is better than nothing

It’s great sprinkled on a salad!

I’ve used it a few times while travelling, but I don’t know which brand. It’s really no substitute for washing, but it’s good to look less oily for a while. It works much better for the blondies, as it can be hard to brush out of darker hair.

i think target carries both samy and big sexy hair products. i don’t think i’ve ever seen the dry shampoo products though…maybe check your target and see if it does

I’ve used them on patients when it was too difficult to wash their hair in the bed. They do sort of work but as others have said they are not that great. I wouldn’t reccomend them for regular use.

There is also a gadget that works better. It is a shower cap with some substance alleged to be both shampoo and conditionr embedded in it. You heat the cap in the Microwave for only 20”, put in on over all your hair and then massage the cap. Some sort of stuff burbles onto your hair and works slightly better than the powdery stuff.

Labeled “Comfort” Shampoo Cap. www.comfortbath.com 1–800-323–2220…Sage Products

Package says,“Trusted by hospitals.” I liked this much better than the spray-on powder.
