I don’t have a specific recommendation, but here’s how I go about buying computer equipment. First I figure out what the system requirements are. Then I check sites like Newegg to see what matches those requirements and read all of the reviews to get an idea of what is good and bad. Then I’ll follow some sites like slickdeals to see what is out there for a bargain.

Anyway, someone will probably have a better, specific recommendation, but that will get you started.

(If you’re running something like Photoshop, you’ll probably focus on getting a good graphics card and lots of ram)

I absolutely love my Dell. I highly recommend them. It was really cheap for that time—around $1000 if I remember correctly, but it’s only 14 inch. Of course prices of notebooks have come down a bit since then. I’ve replaced the AC adapter and CD player, but other than that it still works just as well three years later as the day I bought it. I use photoshop on it, but not that often.
