General Question

I use Avira AntiVir (Free Version) on Windows XP and it works fine, but I can't figure out how to tell it to only check drive C.

Asked by Joe_Freeman (504points) June 25th, 2009

I recently installed a Western Digital Passport USB backup drive and noticed that Avira is now scanning that as well. I can’t figure out how to get Avira to stop doing that. Any ideas? I might occasionally want to scan the Passport but certainly not every time. I can’t find any drive specifier in the config screens.

Open the Avira window by double-clicking the icon in the sys-tray. Click the “Local Protection” link and then “Scanner”. This allows you to do some configurable scans. It’s not fully configurable, but it has most of the sensible options like Local Hard Disks and Windows System Directory.

Once you select the type of scan you want, click the little magnifying glass icon with a red thing on it. It says “Start Scan” if you hover over it.

Make sure you update your definitions before doing the scan. Also, close as many programs as you can while scanning. And delete temporary internet files if you scan a Documents and Settings folder.

Cheers.
