What are some great places outdoors to see?

Asked by ironhiway (1370points) January 1st, 2008

In 2001 I was amazed how beautiful Afganistan was, I just saw some great pics of Plitvica, And prompted by another travel question I looked up on the web my friends motel in Cambodia. There are really some very beautiful places out there. Whether you live there or have been there please share and compare your findings of natural beauty.

The coast of Brazil south of Salvador is brilliant (UNESCO reserves, amazing beaches, etc.). The Marlborough Sounds area of New Zealand is amazing (though I hear Fiordlands is even more breathtaking). But tops out of the places I’ve been has to be Nepal. I trekked the Annapurna sanctuary in 2000 and it was the most humbling, exciting experience imaginable.

Everywhere that I’ve been had been the best place ever! (Well, except Buffalo NY). Hiedelburg, Germany has private homes that are older than our country. The Swiss Alps make our Blue Ridge mountains look so tired and worn. Laos has perfectly flat, bright green rice paddies interrupted by sheer upthrusts of rugged mountains covered in rain forest. Belize has steamy jungles with paths where the jaguars hunt and dolphins that chase your dive boat. Alaska has the best mind-bogglingly amazing views ever. And Isla Mujeres, a little island of the coast of Mexico, has the best fresh fruit margaritas in the world.

syz mentioned the flat parts of Laos but I fell in love with the northern part of the country where it is mountainous and lush with greenery.

Crossing from Tibet into Nepal is something that is awe inspiring. Leaving the Tibetan plateau it feels like you’re on some rocky desolate planet with the clearest blue sky you could imagine. You wind down obscure roads and paths and gradually you see vegetation creep in and rock formations jut out and smooth out and the sea air slowly re-humidify your skin.

The north of Canada is quite strikingly beautiful in summer – especially if you catch the large swaths of land coated in blooming wildflowers.

Patagonia—the south of Chile—particularly Torres Del Paine national park—is the most breathtakingly beautiful place I have ever seen.
