Does anyone know if there is any new info on the American Death Note movie?

Asked by sawcawmahtaw (27points) July 5th, 2009

I can only find info from 2008, and that info just confirmed that Vertigo Entertainment is going to produce the movie. Is there anything about an expected release date, or who’s going to be in the movie?

The American film studio Warner Brothers has acquired the rights to adapt Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata’s Death Note supernatural suspense manga series into a live-action film. In the manga, a teenager finds a notebook with which he can put people to death by writing their names. He begins a self-anointed crusade against the criminals of the world, and a cat-and-mouse game begins with the authorities and one idiosyncratic genius detective. In the proposed film version, the main character is described as a college student, and the story will cover the first three of the 13 manga volumes.

If your a fan of the original id really steer clear of any american versions, you know they’re just going to butcher the hell out of it. Just watch the originals with subs or something.

I heard that Vertigo Entertainment is meant to be releaseing one late 2010. I’m not 100% positive though…sorry I couldn’t have more solid information.

Oh, there is definately going to be one as of recent updates. Warner Brothers has it, apparantly they have only just signed the deal and it’s expected to be out sometime in 2011. DX Long wait!!

Roy Lee was involved with The Ring, The Grudge (not a fan of either of the American versions) and The Departed. Let’s hope that Death Note a la American will not be a disaster. I’m just hoping. I didn’t enjoy the live action Japanese films, but I have to say that Ryuk looked pretty good as a CG.

I heard of it before. I was reading this one article on a website that for the life of me I can’t remember. They said they downloaded the script and read it.
It said that Light (renamed Luke) is a college kid who has his parents killed. And the story goes on as the typical Hollywood story retold a thousand times.
L is the same old L (THANK GOD!!!).
And there are some rumors going around that Zack Effron will play Light (Luke).
