are there any clean wordpress themes?

Just semantic markup without any classes or IDs in the HTML. No styling what so ever.

No classes or IDs? You would have a very hard time styling it.

I think this might be the closer I can think of: Sandbox”:http://www.plaintxt.org/themes/sandbox/

It actually is something like a framework, you get an un-styled page with a markup that actually has lots of IDs and classes so you can define the styles just with CSS

Anyway, most of the classes that the theme produces are supposed to be semantic and they even comply with the hAtom microformat

I build all of my WP themes using Sandbox. It’s highly versatile, and the element class and identity structure make good semantic sense.

However, if you do desperately need clean markup without any classing or assignment of IDs, you could just go though the Sandbox files and delete any class or ID identifiers you see. It should only take you ten minutes or so.

Best of luck with your WP project, and remember to checkout some of the WP cache plugins for later—they will make your desployment a million times more resilient to traffic spikes.
