Can you help me get rid of the HP Set Up Assistant that loads everytime I start my computer?

Asked by tinyfaery (44082points) July 23rd, 2009

My HP Printer/Scanner can be used through my Air Port. I never set it up, because I could not figure it out. Now, everytime I start my MacBook the HP Setup Assistant loads. I cannot figure out how to get rid of it. Help!

I just realized you’re on a Mac and not a PC. But I’m going to go ahead and post this answer anyway in case pc users with the same problem check your answers. I know a Mac guru—if you don’t get an answer here, let me know.

Here are several ways you can stop this from happening (on a pc, not a Mac).

1. Check Start/Programs/Startup—if you see it there, you can delete it because that’s just a shortcut to it.
2. Check Start/Programs for that entry in the list of programs; you may find an uninstall process in the HP folder.
3. Open Control Panel/Add/Remove Programs—if it’s in the list, you can safely remove it. If it turns out you need it later you can just reinstall it from your setup disks.
4. Go to Start/Run and type in “msconfig”, then look in the list of services that are set to start every time your computer runs. You can remove the checkbox and it will stop running automatically. Then restart the computer. When Windows reloads you’ll see a dialog box asking you if you want to see a “configuration change” notice everytime you start Windows—you can choose to not do so.
5. Right click on My Computer and choose Manage. Then go to the Services and see if that is in the list. If it is, you can disable it.

Apple Menu—> System Preferences—> Accounts—> Click on the lock—>enter your password

Take a deep breath.

Click on your name. Click on your user name. Select “Login items.” then uncheck the HP crap.
