What do you think about mom jokes?

I was rereading some previous comments and it seems like a large majority does not understand them. I remember one of the first days during the “wis.dm exodus” that a mom joke was made by a new member and he was severely modded for it.
You realize that they are just jokes right?

I’m not a fan of them, but I can’t say (if I were a mod somewhere) that I’d punish somebody for making them.

People can get pretty sensitive quickly, even though things start with humour. And the internet isn’t the best at relaying subtleties. Maybe the mods are just trying to be careful so things don’t flame up.
If we’ve learned anything from wisdm, fluther, etc., it’s that a great number of people take things too seriously online. Yes, they’re lame. No, they don’t offend me. People spend way too much time being defensive over silly shit.

@J0E Haha, Ok, I’m sorry I’ll be more constructive. @jeanna is right, anyone who gets really offended is just taking it too seriously. Most of the time though, mom jokes just aren’t that funny. If you find a good one, let us know :)

I can’t say I am a big fan of them, but they can be fun on occasion.
I remember you and Ivan joking about fucking my mom in the chatroom. That pissed me off something fierce.
They do not offend me, since the joke isn’t really about my mother, but I don’t really understand them either. The medium is tacky, but as with any medium, it is possible to be clever with it. Unfortunately I haven’t heard many clever “your mom” jokes.
My boys (10, 9 and 7 for those who don’t know) think they are the funnies thing in the world! I like to listen to them tell mom jokes because they are so tickled by them. For the record though, I do not have my own zip code, when I sit around the house I only take up one couch, and I can walk in front of the tv without causing viewers to miss more than a split second!
I should add that it wasn’t a “your mamma is so fat” joke. It was “I will fuck your mom in the ass.” jokes. Granted, that is being a asshole and not making a joke. I still think Ivan and Joe are douche bags. Ivan more than Joe.
@johnpowell I would never, nor will I ever, say something like that, that is not how I talk at all. If you’ve been treating me like shit based off of that I don’t blame you, but I really, really, doubt I said that.
It was you or Ivan. It is hard to tell you apart. If I had two spare weeks I would dig through the transcripts.
Really, you both made jokes in the room while talking about fucking my mom in the ass. She is 53 pervs. It was a back and forth between you two.
@johnpowell What was the point in attacking Ivan and Joe on this question? No one attacked you on it, and Ivan hasn’t even left any comments so he can’t even defend himself. This is one time I sure wish I had the ability to take away the great answers you were given for that immature response.

I say, just a joke, most people who make yo’ mamma jokes don’t even know your mom, if you let the joke upset you, you’re basically playing right into their hands. Someone makes a sex joke about my mom, I just turn it around on them.
Example:
Random Fluther User (we’ll call this person RFU for short): That’s what your mother said when I was fucking her in the ass last night
Me: I know, she told me that you couldn’t get your 2 inch penis up unless you pretended she was a guy.
That’s how I roll…

I’m with johnpowell, it would make me madder than hell. It is no different than ethnic jokes but for some reason they are not pc but sexist, blond etc jokes are okay.
To answer the question, they are not funny, they are for the most part, crude and rude and stupid.
This is why my mascot is the joker, to everyone who takes offense to such stupid and lame jokes I say: Why So Serious?
