Are you satisfied with the way your life turned out?

Asked by ShanEnri (4424points) July 30th, 2009

Just something I wonder from time to time. Did you have higher expectations for yourself? I love my life, but this is not the way I would have pictured it!

Of course. I was supposed to be a rockstar living the dream.. xD but I’m still happy with reality.

Well, I haven’t as long as some of the other members of this site, but up to this point it has been going exactly the way I wanted it. I mean, of course I didn’t think I was going to end up gay, I remember picturing being married to a woman and all that; not going to happen. I also don’t really know what I want to be when I grow up. But it’s heading in the right direction now and I’m perfectly satisfied with it.

Not a bit. I’m working on that, though. <keeps chin up>

Sarcasm's avatar

Definitely not. I’ve been given so many advantages and failed to take advantage of them so much.
But I have not even spent a full 2 decades on Earth. I hope I have plenty more time to turn the tides.

casheroo's avatar

It’s still a work in progress.

hungryhungryhortence's avatar

I’m not quite done yet.

So far, so good. I have everything I ever wanted, and I am exactly where I always wanted to be. I can easily sit back now, and watch life unfold at least until my 100th birthday, a mere 34 years from now.

“It ain’t over till it’s over”, so I’ll let you know then.

I’m with @casheroo
I am working on it
but I am happy with my partner and children

Jude's avatar

I’m still working on it.

So far, no. I’m behind in school and am not in good health. On the bright side, I’m in a relationship. Unfortunately, it’s long-distance.

efritz's avatar

No . . . I’m too shy to do the things I want. I’m desperately hoping to grow out of it though.

jonsblond's avatar

It’s not what I expected but I am very satisfied. I have a man that loves me, puts up with my shit and cooks a kick ass Christmas dinner. He also gave me three children that brighten up my day.

now if we could just win the lottery…

aprilsimnel's avatar

I’m not done yet. But at least I can give myself credit for how well I’ve managed, given the hand I was dealt.

Zendo's avatar

It has been fantastico so far!

filmfann's avatar

It’s funny. I look back at some of my failures, and realize how lucky I was to have failed. Before I graduated High School, I had done 2 remarkable things that I didn’t recieve credit for. Had I, I could not have lived up to the expectations.

It’s going better than last time…

It never crossed my mind that I would be living in the middle of nowhere in the dry tropics of Australia. I think I have done a little good in my life so far, and hopefully caused not too much harm.

But I hope I still have some time left, there are still so many things I want to do.

jonsblond's avatar

@rooeytoo I’m so envious of you. It sounds like you have such an interesting life!

I think every life is just the way you wanted it to turn out, even if you totally screwed up, Most of the time, you were responsible for what happened. Put in your mind what you want, work towards it, and you may never have to ask this question, though I truly think it is a good one. Thanks for it.

rooeytoo's avatar

@jonsblond – Thank you, it is different that is for sure. I never know what the day will bring. Today a kid was in and I thought I saw her shoulderbag wiggling. I kind of ignored it and in a few minutes a tiny baby kangaroo poked its head out. The momma had been hit by a car (that’s what the kid told me, but I bet they killed the mom for dinner last night) and she was going to raise the baby. This is the 2nd time that happened.

I am deeply satisfied. I have a good relationship with my wife, my two sons, and the great cosmic flow. The universe has been kind to me and I am very appreciative.

(PS: Sincere appreciation is the sound of one hand clapping.)

mattesse's avatar

This is not the way I had planned it, but my partner of 15+ years, three kids, 2 cars, two houses, two dogs, two cats, is too good to question. I look forward to growing old with you baby (I know you read Fluther too)....

filmfann's avatar

@mattesse welcome to fluther. lurve.

when I’m feeling low like today I know that I have done my best with what I’ve been dealt, but get angry at Life

when I’m feeling on top of the world like last Saturday I know I have done my best with what I have been dealt with and am grateful for Life

it’s remembering the latter when I’m feeling the former that is the key to satisfaction for me…the contentment in the discontent

Jack79's avatar

It’s not over yet. There have been amazingly good bits, and I was extremely successful in most things I tried. But right now I am in a lot of pain because of my daughter, and no matter what I do I cannot make it go away.

nebule's avatar

and I’m sure I speak for a lot of people here Jack when I say we wish we could make it better x

CMaz's avatar

No, but there is always tomorrow.

Bluefreedom's avatar

Yes, I’m satisfied with the way that my life has turned out. Except for being diagnosed with diabetes in 2006. That was a big shock and a huge downer.

wundayatta's avatar

I try not to ever think about questions like this. I was brought up never to be happy with my life, and let me tell you, it is painful to live like that. I can’t change my feeling about my life, but I can change what I do with that feeling. As I said above, I try not to think about it. I’m getting better at that all the time. As far as I’m concerned, the question is irrelevant. It’s my life. I’m living it. That’s all I can do.
