I need help finding a good netbook to suit my needs.

I have a EeePC 1000HA with Ubuntu on it. It works and runs fine.

At an estimated list price of $700–800, the Apple tablet will hardly be a replacement for the <$300 netbooks. I have a Samsung NC10 dual-booting Windows 7 and Ubuntu, and both run beautifully. I even have Compiz Fusion effects running, which may not make you more productive but certainly makes being productive more fun.

Basically, avoid the solid state drives, because they can be slow as mud. Other than that, your decision will be based on size and other features, depending on what is important to you. Nowadays, 160GB, 1GB, Atom, webcam is all pretty standard.

That should answer pretty much any questions you have. Also what ever you do DON’T get an thing thats apple like an apple tablet, Macbook pro and or an Air. http://gizmodo.com/5324604/the-many-problems-with-apples-tablet and the air has horrible specs. Ubuntu works nicely on netbooks as does XP.

I’ve got two of the Aspire One’s a metallic Blue and metallic Red one (for my wife); I put some more RAM in both of them but only cause I had some spare, the wireless range is awesome (a problem in my double brick house) and the battery life is the only one that I have seen that says 5 hours and can last for 6!! both of them have the 3G cards in them for mobile wireless on the road, and we plug them into the 24” ASUS LCDs when we are working, the video card instantly detects the external video source and dims the screen, and changes to the external screen resolution. One of the best PCs I’ve owned in 25 years. Also keep an eye out on the Acer website, they have Factory direct Cash Back deals too! (a nice way to get an extra $70 off)

I’m looking for a nice netbook myself with your wishes, and i saw the “Dell Mini 10V”: , it’s a bit spartan, but i think it can do the job.

Unless Apple have already announced a tablet—and to the best of my knowledge, they haven’t—then there’s no point in waiting for it.

My brother bought a Dell Mini 9 recently, and he loves it.

I tried it out, and it really is a good little netbook. It originally came with a Dell version of Ubuntu, but my brother decided to switch to Moblin as his main OS. He also upgraded his SSD to the Runcore SSD, and now that puppy flies!
