1. For covering your pillow so that when you drool in your sleep or an eyelash falls off from time to time you can simply remove the pillow case and wash it instead of washing the whole pillow

2. For placing many bars of soap into for a “towel party”.

To keep the actual pillow clean, just like duvet covers are to keep duvets clean.

Also, to make your pillows match whatever silly decor your bedding and room has.

To have filled with candy each Halloween.

To assist the baby kittens to the bottom of the lake.
It’s to keep the pillow cleanish , to make the room / bed look nice

So you can just wash the case instead of the whole pillow.

Ever tried to wash a down-filled pillow? Even worse, ever tried to dry one? Do you know how heavy sopping wet down is? Why do you think a wet goose has to run so fast in order to take off?

Pillow cases protect pillows. Most people dribble and drool at least a bit while they sleep, if not they sweat and rub their faces into the pillow for sure, so without a case all of this would go right into a pillow. Cleaning the insides of a pillow is not an easy job, so it is for everyone’s simplicity that you wrap the hard to clean item with an easy to clean one.

I dunno. Put your pillow in the washer and dryer, let me know how it turns out.

to make your pillow pretty :)

So nudists can dress something up.
But really, just something you can wash easier than your pillow. It’d probably take some more effort to clean and dry a fluffy one. And you risk shuffling the insides around too much.

To fill up with Helium and float away-silly. Or to store silver. Or to make compost in. Or to drool on, or to dry your potatoes in, or to hang someone in.

It is so much easier to wash a pillow case than to wash the whole pillow. Then, the washing machine and later the drier beat the daylights out of the pillow so it gets to be all lumpy and nasty.

Same reason you use sheets and quilt covers, oh and carpets and clothes , paint / wall paper .
To try make things look good clean .
I don’t use a pillow case , i hardly ever use a pillow .
