Can I tether the camera in my MacPro Laptop to make it usable with my MacPro Desktop?

Asked by Bri_L (12219points) August 10th, 2009

I have a program that uses the camera to scan the barcodes of books and software. It then automatically retrieves the information about them. They also have a iTouch companion. The problem is I sync my iTouch with my Desktop. So Is there a way to hook up my Laptop to my desktop such that the cam is available to the Desktop?

Thanks!

Does the program need to control the camera directly? Or could you just provide it with a static image file (e.g. .JPG) with a picture of the barcode?

It actually reads the barcode through the camera.

I can enter the info by hand but it is SOOOOO much faster that way. I guess the other option is to just move the library over when I am done scanning.

Gawker can use remote camera’s.

I can put my macbook outside on the roof and use my desktop to record the time-lapse.

Anything there you can use?

@martijn86 – First of all I had found and lost that program a while ago so THANK YOU for that!

Second that seems like a great option to try! I am going to give it a go!

Either way Thanks for the link!
