How would I go about enrolling at a community college?

Asked by ShanEnri (4424points) August 11th, 2009

I’m interested in a career working with computers. The application process confuses me. My sister told me to go to the campus and they have people that help you. Is this true? Any and all input and instruction is welcome! Thanks ahead of time.

Go to the Admissions Office and ask for some counselling; course choices, etc. People will be very helpful. Good luck.

Yes, there are people in the recruitment or Administration office whose only job is to help people like you or anyone with questions. Simply go up to their main desk and tell them that you need help.

That said, a lot of it is done online now, here in Canada all universitiy and college applications are done online through one central system that shares your information. And every institution has a website with tons of info on it. So before you go to their campus, take a look on their website and see if you can learn a bit about the program that interests you.

Yes, you can go to the registrar’s office or the admissions office, and they will help you. Also, your high school counselor should be able to help you, too, even if you have already graduated.

Typically you need to get your high school to send the junior college a copy of your transcript (it costs $1 to do that at my daughter’s high school), you need to get copies of any tests like the ACT, the SAT, or the THEA that you took back in high school sent to the college, and then you need to fill out the college application. This may include a residency form that will determine what your fees will be.

Here in Texas, all instate public college and university applications are online at one site. You fill it out and tell the site what schools need to get a copy, and off it goes. In Texas, it is www.applytexas.org/. There may be something similar where you are.

All schools have people who assist in this type of thing. Also, the website for the school may explain it clearly.

I was able to enroll for my community college completely online.
But I know my college does have a bunch of counselors who are able to help with that thing.

Just call and ask for the admissions department. They have people who can help you find out what you need and how to go about these things. The only thing is that they don’t do it for you, but they’ll help you figure out what you’re missing.
