Does percent body fat fluctuate similar to the way weight does?

Asked by ryanfaerman (109points) August 11th, 2009

I know that your weight fluctuates throughout the day and can sometimes swing a few pounds either way. But what about percent body fat?

I would imagine that it doesn’t fluctuate very quickly, but I can t seem to find any resources out there to confirm this theory.

Hard to truly evaluate body fat without accurate measurement, or expensive equipment to give you that information. I am a little aware of some equipment that allows you some approximate indication. If you are hard core about body fat reduction, those devices probably won’t cut it.
As you probably know, you can gain weight, and lose body fat. And you can lose weight and gain body fat. You can lose muscle and gain body fat and lose weight. The same ole mantra is, keep building the muscle and losing the fat, and not the water weight.

Daily fluctuations are caused by shifting fluids trapped in your fat cells and between your skin cells.

Yes, I think it must, at least slightly. Because right after eating, total weight increases, but fat has not increased by the same proportion. After digestion, maybe it will, but maybe not.
