Well, considering it evolved 65 Million years ago, i’d say the Housefly came first.

And it wasn’t named, b/c it came before people =)

PerryDolia's avatar

The fly came first because it laid its eggs in the first schmoopiepapoopie.

Truth be told, a “house” was named after the housefly. Likewise Dr. House.

This common fly originated on the steppes of central Asia, but now occurs on all inhabited continents, in all climates from tropical to temperate, and in a variety of environments ranging from rural to urban. It is commonly associated with animal feces, but has adapted well to feeding on garbage, so it is abundant almost anywhere people live. From here.

It would seem that they existed well before us (and houses) but have evolved to take advantage of our messy lifestyle.

Wait.

@Quagmire, Dr. Gregory House was named after the common housefly?

Damn, Wikipedia has let me down again. There’s no mention of that most salient of points anywhere. :-\

Quagmire's avatar

@robmandu, oh yes. Few people know that.

Quagmire's avatar

In fact, I’m the ONLY one!

lloydbird's avatar

I was thinking along the lines of a ‘Homeless Fly’.
I also have the same concerns for the poor House Martin.
@Marina You got me there, what do you think?

What came first the Bot or the Botfly ?

lloydbird's avatar

@sandystrachan Didn’t the Botfly come out of a bot?

Hatsumiko's avatar

Obviously, the “housefly” came after the house, but the “fly” was probably here before any of us. Those annoying things.

Quagmire's avatar

Not only that, but was butter here before the butterfly?

sandystrachan's avatar

Butter comes from a buttercup and for the buttercup to make butter it needs the butterfly . The butterfly grows from the seeds of the buttercup , buttercup came first then butterfly then butter :) . And even wiki should say that, if it doesn’t WHY the hell not!!!!
