Will the perseids meteor shower be viewable through the weekend?

Asked by Theotherkid (889points) August 14th, 2009

I saw the meteor shower on thursday morning, but I’d like some of my friends and family to see it. Will I still be able to see it in Ohio this weekend?

Yes, August 12th was only the peak. You should able to see it for many more days, however not nearly at the rate on the peak.

@Parrappa said it best. Where I live the clouds prevented me from seeing any meteors on august 12th, maybe ill have better luck this weekend. I guess what I’m saying is you better check the weather station before staying up all night.

@Theotherkid: There will be fewer to see; perhaps none. The earth has moved through the central mass of the meteors and you might have to sit around for a long time before spotting several.

On any clear night with dark skies, you might see a few meteors at random.

Oh man!! I’m so glad you asked this question!! I’m going to go to the observatory tonight to see what I can. I knew it happened in August, but didn’t know the date, and kept forgetting to look it up.
