Can I reliably/affordably order fresh figs?

Asked by kruger_d (6231points) August 15th, 2009

I understand they are quite perishable. Is there web site you have been happy with? What variety do you like best? I would probably serve them with a cheese plate or in a tart. Other ideas?

Do you live somewhere that you cannot get them in the store? I get mine from upscale grocery stores. Whole Foods has them.

I would never take a chance on mail order food.

We’ve gotten figs in Harry and David packages before that were delicious.
BE WARNED! They’re never enough though. My cravings for figs will never be satisfied until I have my own fig tree just like my grandma had.
EDIT: Oh, I just now read the word “affordable”—you want AFFORDABLE?? You will not find fresh figs for sale anywhere that are affordable. I repeat: FIG TREE.

Too far north for fig trees and three hour from Whole Foods, but will check next time I am there. I wonder if my grocer would special order a case. Thanks, everyone.
