If what it is, right now, is the way it is for you, in this moment and time, then if you ask, "does it get any better than this?" What is the answer you hear?

Asked by FB (508points) August 16th, 2009

I walk on a beach. I see an old man. He is me. I think. Somewhere in the future. My future.

You see, where I am, right now, is this confusing place in my life, a crossroads of sorts, and so, I want to ask this old man, does it get any better than this?

I am curious about what his answer would be.

Your older self says, “It gets better, and it gets worse, it will always change… but YOU will get better at dealing with the changes and going with the flow; and at making the most out of the moment you are in instead of wishing to change what has passed and trying to control what is yet to be.”

getting better every day

My grandma would say that it gets worse every day you get older.

My grandpa would say that there are ups and downs.

It’s just a matter of perspective.

@petethepothead growing old will be strange and new, just as growing up it seems.
life is pretty interesting

@quasi: You are so right! I work with many elderly. Some tell me, “Don’t grow old”. Others have said, “Growing old is a privilege the few get to experience.”

I would hear, “Buckle down, the ****‘s gonna get deep.”

But for better or worse, if you can take things in stride, its never really that bad. Some may see my best moments as their lowest. It’s all how you can deal with it.

It only gets better, a man is not old until his regrets outweigh his dreams

At this point in time, I feel fortunate, loved and inspired. I’ve known no feelings better than those.

I hope it gets better than this.

Unsurpassable answer, @hearkat. Lurve.

@FB, ask that old guy—in fact, ask any old guy: what have you learned?

@chyna, you quoted the one song that always brings a tear to my eye.

of course it does… all your hard work will pay off… you just have to stay patient, calm and use your creativity…

I’ve had this poem on my wall for 15 years and I still growl at it every day..but I’m still here…waiting…

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit-
Rest if you must, but don’t you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,

As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a fellow turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow -
You may succeed with another blow.
Often the goal is nearer than

It seems to a faint and faltering man;
Often the struggler has given up
Whe he might have captured the victor’s cup;
And he learned too late when the night came down,
How close he was to the golden crown.
Success is failure turned inside out -

The silver tint in the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It might be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit -
It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit
