What is the best (and cheapest) way of hooking a laptop to a television?

Asked by Ame_Evil (3051points) August 19th, 2009

I have a standard laptop and would like to hook it up to watch movies and videos on my 26” television. However I have found loads of different lead and am unsure which’ll do the job.

My mum has a lead that connects to her television, but my television doesn’t seem to have that port. I’m not sure what the port is called, but I should be able to identify it if you provide an image :).

You have an S-Video out or standard video out from your laptop.
plug that into your TV then get an audio cable that will plug into your headset jack of your laptop and have, usually two RCA Males jacks on the other end( red and white). Those plug into your TV audio.
You should have something like a AV-1, AV-2 on the back or side or your TV.
Plug Video and audio into one of them.

THen go into your display settings and choose the proper monitor setting. Basically you will choose both.

It might be easier if you provide images of the ports on your computer and TV.

you probably don’t have RCA outputs, because if you did, you’d know to hook them up to the TV. So you’ll want to look for an S-Video or HDMI output. If you don’t have those, they do make adapters for the monitor port that is RCA on the other end, but that is only picture and not sound.
