Are bank account numbers and check card numbers the same...?

I just opened a bank account that included a check card. It should be coming soon, but I’m leaving town before it (presumably) arrives, and there was something I wished to purchase online before I go.

When the store asks for a credit card, can I give the bank account number as the card number, or will it be different? Essentially, must I wait for the card to come, or can I make a purchase sooner?
