Why does any ya-hoo mail I send get returned to me?

Asked by jbfletcherfan (13212points) August 22nd, 2009

As of Thursday, anyone I send an email to with a ya-hoo address is coming back ‘undeliverable’. Why is this happening all of a sudden? They can send to me, but I can’t send out to them.

Are you typing it out “ya-hoo”?

eambos's avatar

Likeradar might have it. It should be “username@yahoo.com” not “username@ya-hoo.com”

Ya-har! We might have an answer.

Ye-ah. There goes your problem, right there.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

@Likeradar Of course not. They’re the same addresses I’ve had in my address book for years.

Seems like a personal problem.
I was able to send an email from my gmail account to my yahoo account without any issue.

What do you use for email?

jbfletcherfan's avatar

@Sarcasm Outlook Express. Like I said, everything BUT yahoo works great. I’m not liking this at all!

Maybe yahoo has blacklisted your ISP and is bouncing all mail from them. This happens when they get a lot of spam from one ISP.

What does the undeliverable message say? Maybe their box is full.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

@PandoraBoxx reports:
message text rejected by f.mx.mail.yahoo.com:
554 Message not allowed – [320]

And then a whole mess if jibberish.

No, this is happening with all yahoo mails. :-( Thanks for letting me use you as a guinea pig. I’ve sent you a mail, but I bet you never get it.

@PandoraBoxx Yep. I just got it back.

Try this page for more information. This apparently is a reoccurring problem with Yahoo mail.

This started happening for me as of Wed Aug 26 2009. I just got off the phone with support and they are escalating. WEIRD thing: I can send email from the verizon WEBMAIL account to yahoo addresses, but I can’t use any local email clients like outlook express or mozilla thunderbird to send to yahoo. so it seems that if you try to use a POP mail client, it fails, but whatever path the email takes from webmail works. try that in the interim and see what happens ( use your web browser to log in to webmail.verizon.net )

Also – check your date and clock setting – I had a problem like this after accidentally set my system time a month ahead.

@fivespeedv8 Welllllll…..problem is solved for me. Other bad things started happening on here & I ended up taking it up to my repairman. He ran his professional virus scan program on it. He had this for 3 days. Turns out I had 91 infections on here, & yahoo was one of them! It works great now. Check your virus protection situation. Needless to say, he removed my prior protection program & put something better on it…Avira.
