My laptop just broke and it's going to cost $250 to fix, I would much rather just get another cheap refurbished or new laptop for around that price (give or take $100) any ideas.

I plan for this to last me atleast 9 months or if possible longer…

I think it’s worth it to get it fixed. You’re not gonna find a decent laptop for around that price.

All I need it for is word, Internet , and basic tasks…when I get a job going I’m planning on saving for a macbook pro…

My local Mac store has refurbished G4 notebooks for $350 with a warranty. Otherwise, a netbook should fit your basic needs.

In other words, you think you can get by with an Eee PC? If you think you can get by with one, they are pretty cheap new. They aren’t great, but they do the job.

When new computers cost $500, you have to consider buying a new one when it costs $250 to fix the old one.

I’ve gotten good refurbished stuff at www.tigerdirect.com

What broke on the laptop, maybe I could tell you how to fix it yourself even cheaper?

Look into netbooks. They do exactly what you want, and are very small and easy to transport.

Check out this place. They do deal only in Dell, but everything I have gotten from them works better than the new stuff I have bought directly from Dell.
