Are there controls of cloned human cells from privately funded research as have been successfully produced by a California lab?

news today that a genetics lab has cloned human cells and only allowed them to grow to bathostat stage as research for disease and neurological cures and benefits

I’m not sure what the “bathostat” stage is. But I do know that California has a state-funded stem cell institute, so it wouldn’t surprise me if they were involved in cell cloning (different from cloning an actual, full human being)
