Employment options for non-licensed medical doctors?

if you don’t match, what can you do that’ll look good?

You can try to join a lab (or another research project) for a year or two to do some research and gain some valuable experience (and maybe a publication or more) to enhance your future re-application to the match. You could also try to snag a non-categorial spot somewhere, and hope to impress the department and land a categorical spot. You could also ask your school (or a mentor) to put out feelers to find out if anyone has decided to give up their spot at the last minute (this happens more often than you know). Programs would rather fill their roster than have a vacancy at the start of internship.
