Can you recommend a handheld book scanner?

Asked by jaytkay (25810points) August 28th, 2009

Hello, all

Any advice on handheld or pen scanners?

I am researching an old archive of printed ledgers, copying only 3 or 4 lines at a time, not whole pages. Currently I’m typing items into a spreadsheet on my laptop.

You’d be amazed at how much quicker it is just to use a digital camera instead of a scanner. That’s what I’ve been doing with sheet music for a couple years now. You can straighten it up in Graphic Converter or PhotoShop Elements and even run some OCR software on the output if you wanted to be able to edit the text. I’ve even gotten readable results just using the camera in my iPhone.
