What kind of advertising do you do for your business?

Asked by willbrawn (6614points) August 29th, 2009 from iPhone

I am building up my business and would like to start advertising. What are some ways you have advertised your business that have been successful?

I was thinking buying ad space on facebook and possibly myspace. Then also flyers and Google advertising.

By the way I am a portrait and wedding photographer.

Social media seems to be the obvious answer these days. I’ve relied upon word-of-mouth advertising as this is the best and most reliable kind, though possibly the slowest also.

Like you, I’m a freelancer, and lately have been using stickers and business cards as part of my own self-promotion. The fact of the matter is that what works for one person may not work for another, so in business, such as life, we must learn from our mistakes and make our own dreams come true.

I have been using MySpace and Facebook’s ad methods and they’ve been very effective :)

I hand out business cards and sometimes put ads in the various school athletic programs. And there is word-of-mouth, also. I notice that a number of local businesses either Twitter or have Facebook pages or their own URL. In addition, putting signs on your vehicle can be a good way to reach people. I know that I often scribble down phone numbers of professionals I end up behind at stop lights and later research them and often hire them for specific jobs.

As a photographer I would think you would be looking mostly for local business so any online advertising you do needs to be tied to real world location.

@Darwin thanks for the point. With Weddings though I wouldn’t mind work taking me to other states for jobs. It’s fun.
