How do you feel about Firefox 3.x.x?

Asked by windex (2932points) August 30th, 2009

Ever since I updated my Firefox from 2.x.x to 3.x.x it has been crashing and acting weird. Sometimes it’s really really slow and just freezes, IE works fine (I only use it as a last resort while FF is restarting) and Chrome is fine also.
Should I go back to 2.x.x?
I just know it is ONE guy who is responsible for this, one lousy line of code or character… >:(
I delete the Temp files, delete/empty history/cache/cookies etc. and disable all the add-ons/themes etc. but it still does it, my Firefox hasn’t been the same since the 3.x.x. update.
What has been your experience.

So far no real problems, and I run it loaded with extensions. Perhaps you should do a complete uninstall with a utility like Revo Uninstaller (it’s free) and wipe out every trace of your FF installation including all preferences, then reinstall. Maybe some small thing went awry bitwise during your installation.

I don’t feel much of a difference between 3.0 and 3.5. One thing I do dislike about the latter is the inclusion of a “new tab” button. I preferred double-clicking in the empty space or hitting CTRL-T.

I’ve also noticed my Download Statusbar extension doesn’t show bandwidth or file size info anymore, even after reinstalling it.

I’ve been running 3.0.13 for a while now, no problems. (Sounds like you’re on Windows, though, and I’m on Mac, so my comment may have no relevance for you whatsoever.)

I would wait on 3.5 until the bugs have been worked out. (I’ve been ignoring the update, myself.)

Is Opera available for Windows? I am uncertain. I like that as my backup browser (after Safari went ded).

2.x to 3.0 was a nice upgrade for me, but ever since the 3.5 upgrade firefox seems so much more bloated. I’ve been using Chromium more and more. My suggestion is to try chrome out unless you absolutely need your firefox extensions.

i used to use FF3 and safari 3 interchangeably, i have both FF3.5 and Safari 4 on my macbook pro and i stick with Safari 4.

I never had any issues with either excpet for a couple days when FF3 kept crashing for no reason, but that stopped and never had issues since.

i say uninstall your current FF, and download and reinstall 3.5 and see what happens.

I have the latest FF version, and the only problems I’ve had have been with facebook. It’s constantly telling me I’m not connected to the internet, when I clearly am. I also don’t like that ‘open new tab’ button.

I like it. I havent had a problem but then again I havent used it much. I do like the chrome tab setup that they have going.

I refuse to update FF. I ignore the updates and keep running the version that I have now, which is 3.0.7 The updated versions are screwy on Windows.

I just installed the 3.5 a couple weeks ago & I have absolutely no problems with any thing. I love it! FB runs great. This is SO much faster than old IE & I’m not locking up like I did before. I’m on Windows XP.

It sounds like a problem with your particular installation, not firefox 3 itself.

I am a volunteer FF beta tester, and neither my laptop (Vista) nor desktop (XP Pro SP3) has there been a problem. Or as Johnny Bench used to say on that old commercial, “No runs, no hits, no errors.” You should let the Mozilla people know what’s wrong so they can tweak it and help you.

I’m loving Firefox 3.5 :)

Anyway, what you should try is to delete your profile folder (Google for that, I don’t know where it is in Windows by heart) and to start Firefox again after that. Or you may just want to rename it, because your profile folder contains all your settings and add-ons and stuff.
