I have traveled a lot and seen a lot of amazing things, but when I read your question, the only answer that stood out was “Wherever my grand kids are.”

rowenaz's avatar

Sorry, because a lot of people are not going to like this answer, but it’s Disneyworld.

There is nothing better that the joy, wonder, delight, and happiness on my family’s faces when we are there.

jrpowell's avatar

This might sound kinda crazy. But right now my favorite place would be in the dentist chair. I got some mouth funk and no dental insurance.

filmfann's avatar

@rowenaz Disneyland would be my number 2.

My favorite place is Big Sur.
Beautiful relaxing beaches, and no cell phone service or television signals.

My third favorite is Taco Bell.

I love to sit by the river at ‘Rock bluff”:http://seenorthflorida.com/destinations/rockbluff.php.

The first picture on the right is the exact spot where I like to go to be alone with my thoughts. It’s very tranquil and beautiful there. My Florida house is about 2 miles from that spot, and I used to go there to sit for hours at a time to just relax.

perplexism's avatar

NYC. Nothing like the hustle and bustle of that city.

hungryhungryhortence's avatar

Favorite: Small beach town in Northern California.

Where I’d like to go: Spain

Oooops, I just noticed my link is messed up, and it’s too late to edit my opriginal post. ( and the picture is on the left, not the right)... I need some coffee!!

It’s interesting to note how most of the time our favourite places in the world are the places we aren’t at the current moment.

This is true for me. Although I can’t say that home isn’t a close second.

jbfletcherfan's avatar

@Saturated_Brain Thank you for opening that door. I love to travel, but coming home is the best. Also, I was going to say anywhere I was with family. It’s not where I am, but who I’m with.

deni's avatar

Sedona, Arizona, maybe. I just can’t get enough of those red rocks. But, like @jbfletcherfan said…it’s also very much about who you’re with.

aprilsimnel's avatar

London. Such a great city. When I’m there, it feels like being home. But I’d like to see the world Michael Palin-style, too!

gailcalled's avatar

Where I live. (12165). I have clear skies, beautiful night viewing, no pollution, pristine water from my well, 20 acres of old field, wood margins, a pond, streams, woods, wild berries, and a view that pleases me. Cons; mice and ticks.

It’s a toss up between Bend, Oregon and Pittsburgh, PA.

My family owns a little cabin (and I do mean little) in Oregon that is right on the edge of the Deschutes National forest. It’s not winterized, so it’s only really inhabitable in the summer, but it is the most peaceful and relaxing place I’ve ever been. It’s about about 100 feet back from the edge of the fall river, and that section has the tiniest of waterfalls, producing that soothing rushing water sound at just the right decibel level. Most of the time you can only hear the wind gently pushing the trees around, and birds in the distance. There’s the occasional wildlife that wanders past the dilapidated wooden fence. Because it’s the forest and the high desert, the air just feels so clean. Best time? Summer thunderstorms, where the air is electric and the rumbling fills your body to brimming.

I live in Pittsburgh now. Coming from southern California, this place is just as much a world apart as Oregon. The seasonal shifts are undeniably beautiful and the weather is capricious enough to keep life interesting. Everything is so green and alive! I cannot get enough of the cicada calls in late summer and although I take issue with the humidity, I absolutely love the Fall and Winter months. It’s an urban environment for sure, but it’s a very unique city feel that’s hard to describe. It has a beautifully gritty quality. It’s life force and history are seemingly tangible and incredibly pervasive. For one thing, most places are incredibly safe. I wander around and explore at odd hours of the morning and have never encountered a problem. The entrance to downtown is spectacular and almost other worldly. It’s like being welcomed home to some kind of fairy-tale kingdom. I also enjoy how fantastically walkable the city is. Not to mention all of the topographical/cartographical quirks and inconsistencies. The landcape and road systems really are something else. Every new turn is a delight, especially once you’ve become used to the crazy. Okay, I’ll stop. I’ve gone on too long!!

But equally importantly… @iAManEXPERT, What’s your favorite place?

For city and romance…Paris…we stay at a little place on the Cite, behind the Notre Dame..you can see it from our window and hear the bells on the hour…magical
and for sun and beach…a little village between Positano and Amalfi, Italy.. called Praiano
We stay at a villa on the ocean, (summerinitaly.com) eat fresh seafood every night. It’s a local place so you get to know the people of the town..everyone is so welcoming there…we rent zodiacs and go to capri, dive off cliffs, swim, hike…its heaven…

Sampson's avatar

I’m not sure, but I can honestly say that it is not where I am now.

Leysgoflyers111's avatar

Any where there are head high rights peeling off a sand bar with no crowds

Beta_Orionis's avatar

@Sampson and where is that?

deni's avatar

@Beta_Orionis As a current Pittsburgher, your description of why you love it here brought a tear to my eye. It didn’t ACTUALLY but still, woo woo burgh!!!!!!

Sampson's avatar

@deni Living with my folks. I’m moving in October, so no worries, though.

Beta_Orionis's avatar

@deni Go PGH!!! :D Actually, you wouldn’t happen to be the pgh based flutherer with whom one of my roommates recently hung out, would you? :P That’d make it a small world (kind of.)

@Sampson Makes sense. Thing should improve then!

I really like where I live, San Francisco, especially the downtown area (I don’t live downtown, so it’s a great place to go to), but I think I would have to say that with all the 16 countries I’ve been to, my favorite place is still Lake Tahoe on the California/Nevada border. It’s just an excellent place. It’s a second home to me (literally because we have a vacation home there, but figuratively in that it feels like I could easily live there if I wanted to). I’ve been there with my family, friends, and a combination of the two. It’s beautiful, there’s a ton to do there (boating, mountain biking, shopping, picture taking, hiking, and just plain hanging out), and I look forward to every time I go there.

Glow's avatar

Any place where I don’t have to worry…

But no such place exists ):

So, anyplace where I can love and be loved, regardless of physical location…

Physical-wise, I love a secluded beach and the Florida Everglades, but really, id love to see the mountains… maybe Colorado…

Beta_Orionis's avatar

@DominicX Lake Tahoe really is beautiful. I recently hung out there with a bunch of fantastic, (mostly) retired programmers who call it home, all of whom are in their late 60’s/early 70’s, more fit and energetic than most people I know, and can totally kick my ass at anything! The weekend after we left, they had plans to bike around the lake! They’re also the folks that introduced me to Rock Band interestingly enough. :P

rebbel's avatar

@DominicX And according to Forbes you live in one of the ten happiest cities of the world.
7.

DominicX's avatar

@rebbel

“It’s associated with gay pride,” says Anholt. “That’s a happy image unless you’re a raging homophobe.”

I couldn’t agree with that more. :P

Although, San Diego is my second favorite city and it’s a close second. :)

rebbel's avatar

@DominicX And about Amsterdam it says: “A lot of our respondents are young people,” says Anholt. “Amsterdam fared well, I presume, because they think everybody is stoned all the time. It’s sex, drugs and rock and roll.”
I’m asking you, drugs…, in Amsterdam??

deni's avatar

@Beta_Orionis hmmm….i don’t believe so. unless i was totally unaware :p

Berlin and Singapore, want to live in both places.

London and Tokyo are next but I haven’t been yet, unless you count Narita airport for tokyo.

My bed. Seriously. It is the most comfortable bed ever. It’s like a big cuddle! Throw in a breeze coming in through the open windows, and I am in heaven.

Starry night, hot crackling campfire, cold beer and great company. Perfection.

knitfroggy's avatar

Either in my chair at home or Branson, MO or San Antonio, TX.

Blondesjon's avatar

A little spot just south of jonsblond’s belly button.

Jack79's avatar

Tough question, because if I knew the answer, I’d be there right now. Prague used to be my favourite place in the world, but everytime I go back it becomes more and more depressing. I feel a nostalgia for how Prague used to be before the tourists discovered it. And even my old neighbourhood (at the edge of the city next to endless fields and mountains) is now all built-up and noisy.

Overall though, I think it’s people that make a place. Any place. So I’d rather be in hell with good company than in heaven all alone. I loved Bydgoszcz when I lived there with my daughter, I loved Dresden when I had a good job and a nice girlfriend, I even enjoyed Coventry for a couple of months (ok, maybe not THAT long). I’d gladly live anywhere if someone gave me a good reason to do so.

jonsblond's avatar

@Blondesjon damn you! How can I answer all serious when you post stuff like that? Now you got me blushing. ;)

This beach on the south shore of Lake Superior with the view of the Porcupine Mountains.

There is one place that is so much better than all else, NY BABY!!!!

kalafatic's avatar

Montana: specifically Missoula, Glacier Park, the Smith River & the Mission Mountains. Also on the list are Erode India, Ashland OR, Prague, Pulau Langkawi & pretty much anywhere in New Zealand.

My favourite place in the world is Covent Garden in London. The place speaks for itself really, it’s always full of life and of course home of the Royal Opera!

Jude's avatar

Where my girl lives is kinda nice. This is just steps down from her diggs.

Joe_Freeman's avatar

@aprilsimnel, I’m with you: My favorite place in the world is London! But I’m from New York and love it too, as well as San Francisco. Magical cities, all three. (P.S.: Love your kitties!)

Bluefreedom's avatar

I’ve had the fortunate opportunity to travel all over the world while I’ve been in the military and I’ve seen and experienced wonderful places all over the globe. As far as any particular favorites abroad, I can’t name any specific one at the moment. Now, closer to home here in Arizona, I do have a favorite little town I like to visit a few times a year because it is such an inviting, cozy, and appealing place. It is a former mining town called Jerome which is built on the side of Mingus Mountain, west of Camp Verde, Arizona.

gailcalled's avatar

I, who have been almost nowhere, have been to Jerome. It was charming.

wundayatta's avatar

Where ever I have other like-minded musicians to jam with and people to appreciate our music. Also really beautiful and relaxing places, with few people, such as Dominica. Finally, places where lots of human interaction and entertainment is possible. These things are not necessarily compatible, so I have different favorite places depending on which goal we are talking about.

Velvetinenut's avatar

I love sitting at the dinner table with my family and friends.

The place I wish to be is sitting at a fancy restaurant with family and friend celebrating 1. my divorce, 2. my graduation.
