The laws governing hot dog carts in California changed in July of 2007. They come under the California Retail Food Code and are administered by your local county health department. They are the strictest laws in the country governing hot dog carts. There is, however, still much confusion over the exact rules among these local departments and among the hot dog cart manufacturers due to the wording of the new code. The new law affects both the construction of the cart and the procedures and training of the cart operator. Contact Willydogs at 800–915-4683 for a cart model that meets the new Cal Code. Willydogs is designing a new cart specifically to meet the needs of the California market. They are also developing a plain language guide book to explain and simplify the procedures for hot dog cart operators in California.
