Who's the most credible newsperson on television?

Asked by astrojams1 (149points) September 10th, 2009

the vast majority of pundits and commentators (like sean hannity and keith olbermann and roland martin) follow party lines no matter the hypocrisy and irrationality. are there any tv-persons who overtly express their political opinions but maintain a reliable reserve of rationale and earnestness?

i am not referring to unbiased, bipartisan reporting. i am referring to a sound, consistent, and rational opinion-reporting—the person that can look at his party and say “wow, you’re incredibly wrong on this point.”

Jon Stewart.

@Sarcasm I love that he isn’t a single-party criticizer. Great answer.

Christiane Amanpour. I’m always impressed by her knowledge and insights.

It’s someone whose name we don’t know yet.

@Sarcasm – Love Jon Stewart, but he’s a humorist, not a newscaster.

Since Cronkite’s gone, it’s anybody’s guess.

Glenn Beck.

@Sampson- What, you mean to tell me that a man who may have raped and murdered a young girl in 1990 is a credible newsperson?

The_Compassionate_Heretic's avatar

Oh FFS can we quit with the Glenn Beck rape thing yet?

Oh, I hadn’t heard about the Glen Beck rape and murder story yet.
That guy has perv written all over him.

Most credible newsperson IS Jon Stewart. He makes fun of everyone, regardless of party. You watch him wince at mistakes Obama makes, then take him to town for it. He openly ranks on anyone who displays how partisan they are.

I almost never watch television news since it’s all pretty vapid as far as I’m concerned. I have no idea who most of these people you guys have mentioned are.

Walter Cronkite. It’s too bad he can’t report the news from beyond the grave.

AstroChuck's avatar

Same goes for Edward R. Murrow.

Walter Cronkite and at one point…Dan Rather (before he went off the rails).

They don’t make them like that anymore…which is why I don’t think there are any credible newspeople anymore. Not on TV anyway. Maybe in print.
