What area of California?
If you’re in the east bay area or northern CA, Zacharys is the only name you need to know.

Not what I consider “fast food” but they are a chain in the south bay area – Pizza My Heart
There is no better thin crust pizza anywhere.

Round Table Pizza is by far the best pizza chain pizza in California. It’s about as fast as Pizza Hut is.

Pizza Hut and Dominoes and Little Caesars are awful in CA, just like they are in the other 49 states. If one is tempted to to go to one of those, they should just buy some frozen pizza, which tastes far better.

And if you’re in a mall, then Sbarro Pizza is real good.

@veronasgirl I was going to say CPK, too, but that isn’t really “fast food” pizza. All the CPK’s I’ve been to have sit-and-eat dinners, not delivery.
I second @AstroChuck‘s Pizza My Heart.
If you’re near Berkeley or SF, try Blondie’s pizza.
I agree with @sccrowell on Papa John’s too if what you’re really looking for is someone to deliver.
There are various locations across the state for Woodstock’s Pizza which is pretty good. (The locations are usually in college towns as @AstroChuck and I discovered while we were talking about them.)

I actually think Pizza Hut is surprisingly good for a fast food chain, but it’s still far inferior to independent pizza joints. Round Table is too boring and bland for me. And Dominoes is simply dreadful by any standard. I’ve never tried Papa John’s but have the impression it is also dreadful. And though several friends recommended Woodstock’s to me, I thought their pizza sucked in a big way.

There’s lots of great pizza out there, even in California, but you don’t find it at the chains, fast food or otherwise.
