Is there a mountain bike attachment that records how many miles I have traveled?

Asked by erichw1504 (26448points) September 21st, 2009

I’m looking for some device I could attach to my mountain bike that will record how many miles I have gone on it. Even better if the data could somehow be uploaded to my computer.

What other kind of electronic devices are there for bikes that are cool?

As a long time road cyclist I’ve enjoyed this product. It’s small, lightweight and simple.

Noel, those Avocet computers were great, but I haven’t seen them for sale for years.

Eric, I think Cateye is the best selling cycle computer brand in the US, they’re often recommended by people I know.

I have a Sigma that I like.

I have a CatEye brand trip monitor. Go to your local bike shop or REI and there are lots of options.

CatEye makes good units, you could go nuts and get a one of the garmin units:

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=160

I have an edge 705 and my wife has a 305 they are fantatic units, really appeal to the geek in me when I download and look at all of the stats. Amazon from time to time will have refurb unts for a lot off.

You can upload the data and see how you are improving, map the ride even share your rides online either with garmin connect or mapmyride.com.

If you go this route there is a free alternitave to the garmin software called Sportracks it has more features than the garmin software.
