Why is a specific website timing out everytime?

Asked by smart1979 (442points) January 24th, 2008

I’m trying to access a particular website that always times out from my office, but I can reach it from anywhere else. What could be the problem and how could I fix it? I tried a DNS flush and that didn’t help. I’m pretty sure my company is not filtering it as I can reach any other site without problem.

If you’re sure that your office isn’t filtering it, then there may be a network problem somewhere between your office and that website.

But if it always times out from your office, and it’s been ongoing for several days, I’d bet on filtering.

The reason I think it’s not is because it’s just my blog site, smartbeats.com, but I can access anything else on the internet. I spend way more time on other sites and the bandwidth from smatbeats must be pretty low to some of the others I visit.

Is there anything I can do?

Try going to other sites hosted by your blog provider or ISP. If it’s a network problem, they’ll have problems too.

You could try talking to the IT and network people in your office.
