Is OnLive going to destroy the gaming console?

Asked by Fred931 (9434points) September 22nd, 2009

I’ve just been visiting their website, and it seems like its going to be huge. “Just plug it into a computer or TV and it’ll work,” it braggs. It’s coming this winter, which is well earlier than how long the gaming system companies want to hold out with their current consoles.

Interesting. Things are changing. Everything is going to be web based.

I hope not. I like buying physical copies of games for one reason: I can sell it on the used market when I finish and get some of my cash back. I’m certain the licensing for these online games prevent me from doing this, so I want nothing to do with it.

This is the same reason I prefer my paper books to the Kindle—until I can sell a book I don’t want anymore and get back some of the cash I spent I’m simply not interested.

Netflix will eventually kill the DVD player.

@ChazMaz Well, I guess streaming is going to kill media as we know it in general.

Yes, eventually nothing will exist except for the internet. Your house will be web based. Your dog will be web based. Your job will be web based. Etc, etc…
