What online back-up service for the Mac is the best?

Asked by mleo (35points) September 26th, 2009

I want to back up my external hard-drive to an off-site location. I’m using Mozy right now, but it’s really slow to back-up. Anyone have first-hand experience with alternatives?

I use SugarSync on my PC, but it’s compatible with Macs and even mobile devices. No problems with it, although I have a free account I’m thinking of upgrading soon and backing up all my files there.

Being slow is probably because of your upload speed. Any service will probably be about the same.

A guy that (I think) works at mozy posts here. I just sent him a link to your question.

There are a few things that could contribute to the perceived slowness:

1. everything gets encrypted before it is uploaded
2. in general, upload speeds for ISP’s are slower than download speeds
3. hard drives are big, and it takes a while to upload gigabytes of information
