I have dark hair, that is currently mostly blonde (bleached and dyed) I would like to go silver, how do I do it?

Asked by gottamakeart (1323points) September 26th, 2009

I’d like my hair to come out more multi-tone than all one shade, also it would be good not to over-process and have it break off at the roots. Should I just do some more light highlights and find something like henna(Maybe Manic Panic) to go over it?

You can have your hair foiled and have highlights and lowlights all at the same time. This looks better and is multi colored and looks more natural than one color.

A way to try and get silver hair is to first make sure that all the blonde you have is very pale or almost white. You can do this by purchasing a pale purple toner to get any yellowy looking pieces lighter. Don’t go for a deep violet toner, because that can do funky things to your hair. Once all of your hair is pale enough, purchase a blue toner and apply it. This turns very pale hair silver by dyeing it a very pale blue. So, against the blonde, you now have silver. This won’t do anything at all unless your hair is pale enough to begin with, though.

If you want more than one shade, I suggest applying the blue toner to only bits and pieces of your hair, just like you would do for highlights or lowlights.

Edit: When buying toners, the best brands to get are those from companies that make or specialize in unnatural hair color dyes to begin with.
