Are there specific foods, ingredients, beverages, etc. which you believe make you look more/less attractive?

Asked by mirifique (1540points) September 29th, 2009

Notwithstanding skin problems, acne, etc. which some people experience after eating particular foods, do you think there are certain foods which make you look better, e.g., make your face “slimmer” looking? Are there foods which make you look worse, e.g., bloated? For me, high-sodium and high-gluten makes me look bloated, and thus worse, in my opinion. I’m curious if anyone else has established similar relationships between specific foods or ingredients, and how your face looks.

Low glycemic foods help keep me fresh & young lookin’!

I always avoid salt & try to limit my sugar intake to stay young & healthy, too

Margaritas make me look better to everyone.

@SpatzieLover What foods do you usually eat, just out of curiosity? And which ones do you avoid?

More attractive: lots of water and something spicy which adds a flush.

Less attractive: salt, alcohol, sugar- they bloat me make my eyelids and undereyes look bruised.

I try my best to eat fresh organic food. Food I can read (& know) all of the ingredients to.

Avoid msg and all salt laden restaurants (this takes some shopping around but there are a few great ones near me and a couple of good meals at most chains)

Eat: Fage yogurt, organic apples & apple sauce, zucchini bread (or another fruit/veg bread that I have made or my local organic grocer has made), lean turkey meat, lean red meat (usually tenderloin), raisins and dried berries, fresh & frozen berries, herbal teas, espresso ( I make latte drinks at home——though I do like Starbucks, too), Chai teas…and the one processed food I drink most often is low sodium V-8’s to boost my veg intake.

Pizza. 24 hours after indulging in pizza, I am guaranteed to look a little curvier in a bad way than before.
My skin looks great a few days into doing lots of wheat grass shots. It’s like a facial in a little glass.

@Likeradar me too. I gain 3–5lbs after a couple of slices

Aloe juice is great for my skin. I use organic whole aloe juice to drink & rub everywhere. note to self, buy wheat grass

Booze – know colloquially as Beer goggles. (Not for you but for the person doing the looking.)

mirifique's avatar

@SpatzieLover: wouldn’t the 3–5 lbs be water retention though? Also, where do you buy wheat grass, and any specific brands you’d recommend?

Likeradar's avatar

@mirifique You can get live wheat grass to grow at home and a juicer to use at home, but it is way more convenient to go to Whole Foods or Jamba Juice and buy a shot. Jamba Juice usually has pretty good tasting wheat grass at their locations. Bad wheat grass is disgusting, but theirs is consistently slightly sweet and yummy.

Sugar makes me look and feel like crap. But I loves it!

SpatzieLover's avatar

@Likeradar I love Jamba. I’ll have to have a shot the next time I go. Thanks for the info!

Dark chocolate and a nice glass of red makes me look better because it guarantees a smile and a twinkle in the eye.

I think eliminating dairy is good. I did it for a few years and did feel better, and even look better I think. I’m contemplating doing it again.

Borba water is supposed to be good for your skin, (borba.com) and aloe vera juice is supposed to make your skin look good too. The best thing though is plain old water.

100% natural pomegranite juice. It cleans my system and makes me feel refreshed!
